Eelco works as an Associate with the HPO Center on High-Performance Finance Functions. André de Waal and Eelco worked together for several years (2018–2025) at the Finance Function Research & Development Center. He is highly engaged with the HPO Framework and its dedicated deepening for finance departments: the HPFF Framework. Together, they were among the founders of this scientifically grounded framework. The HPFF Framework clarifies the critical factors a finance function must strengthen to successfully transition into a robust, innovative, and stable finance organization.
Eelco is co-author of the books Beyond Budgeting: A Practical Alternative, How to Build an HPFF?, HPFF in Practice, Building the High-Performance Finance Function, The High-Performance Finance Function (handbook), as well as numerous articles on management control challenges and the design and organization of the finance function. Together with André de Waal, Eelco has also conducted extensive research on the finance function of the future, which resulted in the publication The Finance Function of the Future (2024).
Eelco’s strength lies in the uncompromising analysis of organizational dilemmas within the finance function and translating these into pragmatic, incremental steps. Always in close partnership with the client, since the client organization must be able to implement and sustain the approach independently. This ensures durable outcomes and embeds new ways of working.
