About the HPO Center (Center for Organizational Performance)

Customers, employees, suppliers, shareholders, society – everyone benefits when organizations perform as a High Performance Organization (HPO). We beam with pride every time we succeed in inspiring and challenging managers and employees to embark on the road towards becoming a High Performance Organization. We aim to be the source of inspiration and knowledge worldwide when it comes to “what” makes an organization better and what drives managers and employees within those organizations to improve their performance.

We are a knowledge and inspiration center that uses continuous research to work with organizations around the world (including emerging markets) that are driven to improve their performance. Inspiring, rousing and connecting people in a network is our passion. We use the HPO concept to hold a mirror up to organizations and provide a foundation for continuous performance improvement.

Origins

The idea for the HPO Center (Center for Organizational Performance) was born during round-table talks with managers in the profit, non-profit and government sector. During these conversations on the scientific reserach into the success factors of High Performance Organizations (HPO) by Dr. André A. de Waal, the idea arose to establish a center. The goal of the HPO Center would be to create a bridge between this scientific research and its application in practice.

“We challenge because we know!”

During the spring of 2007, the HPO Center reached the point where it could clearly indicate which success factors have a direct correlation to the competitive performance of an organization. We now know exactly "what" makes an organization high performance! Performing well in the HPO factors not only results in more financial elbowroom, but also a continuous strategic edge on comparable organizations (customer orientation, employee satisfaction, innovation strength, etc.).

The HPO Center is the global expert in "what" makes organizations better. We provide knowledge to this end in the form of diagnoses, interviews, books, articles, lectures, networks and workshops. This knowledge supports organizations in implementing the desired improvements. We have also started new research that looks more in-depth at this subject, including studies into High Performance Managers (HPM) and Higher Performance Partnerships (HPP).

Inspiration & know-how to excel

Based on our studies in 50 countries involving 1.470 organizations, an HPO diagnosis was developed that has been tested extensively in practice. This HPO diagnosis enables us to hold a mirror in front of organizations, providing a clear indication of their strengths and areas requiring improvement. The diagnosis also provides a clear-cut and broadly based focus for improvement.
